This photo was taken of John (Hance) Edsall Payne in Prescott, Ontario in the winter of 1917-18. The son of Charles and Gertrude Payne, he enlisted in the Navy on September 15, 1917. He died aboard the USS Ticonderoga during its bombing in WWI on September 30th, 1918.
